The trio of Robert Lewandowski, Iñago Martinez and Joao Cancelo maintained their chances of participating in the Barcelona and Real Madrid Clásicos in a rather smart way.
The Catalan club played a match against Las Palmas in the thirtieth round of the Spanish League, and Xavi Hernandez’s squad succeeded in winning thanks to Rafinha’s goal.
Barca is scheduled to meet Cadiz in the 31st round, before hosting Real Madrid in an upcoming Clásico at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on April 21.
Lewandowski, Iñago and Cancelo each had 4 yellow cards, which threatened their participation in El Clásico if they received another yellow card in the Cadiz match.
But the trio succeeded in avoiding the matter, after each of them received a warning during the Las Palmas match, so they missed the Cadiz match and their presence in El Clásico was confirmed.
Joao Cancelo intervened forcefully on Marvin, the Las Palmas player, to get a warning, while Lewandowski seemed to deliberately receive the card after he left the field quietly and wasted time.
It is worth noting that Barcelona is preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals next Wednesday.
