UEFA announced the appointment of French referee François Letcser as referee for the match between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
History shows that Letxer is a “good omen” for the Royal Club, as every time the 34-year-old referee officiated a match, the Merengue won.
The Frenchman previously managed two matches for Real Madrid in the Champions League, the first against Chelsea in the 2022-23 quarter-finals at Stamford Bridge, and then Carlo Ancelotti’s squad won 2-0, and Real Madrid won the title after that.
The Chelsea match was also a first leg, but the difference was that it was in England and not in Spain, but perhaps repeating the course of history in one way or another heralds Vinicius’s teammates to cross City and achieve the champions title for the fifteenth time.
As for the second match that the Frenchman managed, this season was in the group stage against Napoli, where the Merengue won 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which will host the Manchester City match.
Leixer has never led a match for City in the Champions League, but he managed one in the European Super Cup, opening this season against Sevilla.
Regular time ended with a 1-1 draw between the two teams, then Pep Guardiola’s squad won on penalties and achieved its first title of its kind.
