Egyptian referee Ibrahim Nour El-Din continued to stir up controversy, this time after he denied news of his retirement from refereeing after officiating the summit match between Al-Ahly and Zamalek on Monday.
There were many rumors that Nour El-Din would end his refereeing career at the end of the summit in order to finish it in the best possible way, but the referee denied this matter and downplayed the importance of the most important match in Egyptian football.
Speaking to the Egyptian media, the controversial referee said, “The Al-Ahly and Zamalek match is like any other match with 3 points. I said this repeatedly 10 years ago. My feeling was normal when I was chosen to manage it.”
He also added, “It is not true that I retired after that match and that my management of the summit is to honor me, but based on my efforts throughout the season.”
He concluded, “If I decide to retire, it will be in a final or a decisive match, but this is a match in which the two teams are ranked ninth and tenth.”
Zamalek and Al-Ahly share ninth place, with each of them having 21 points, but the White Knight played 13 matches, compared to 11 matches for the Red Giant.
It is noteworthy that Zamalek won the summit with a score of 2-1, which is the first victory after 4 consecutive defeats that the team has suffered since the appointment of Marcel Kohler as coach of the Red Castle.
