RAC1 reported that Xavi Hernandez’s chances of continuing his position as Barcelona coach until the end of his contract in the summer of 2025 have increased strongly in the past few hours.
Although Xavi often stressed that his decision was final and irreversible, the efforts made by President Joan Laporta and how he tried to assure the coach that he was the most appropriate choice for the team in the coming period seemed to have greatly changed the opinion of the former Qatari Al-Sadd coach.
According to the latest report, Xavi is now open to the idea of continuing and fulfilling his contract in full, but he is requesting certain guarantees related to the upcoming summer transfer market.
The coach requested a meeting with Laporta and the sports administration, led by Deco, in order to discuss his continuation and outline how things will proceed in the next season, after which he can announce his new decision to stay or continue with his old decision.
Xavi wants Barcelona to conclude major deals in the summer transfer market, and he also stresses the need for guarantees that the current team will be strengthened and the main players in his project will not be sold, regardless of the financial temptations.
In practice, it seems that Laporta’s management is ready to provide these guarantees, which opens the door to a surprise by all standards that will be Xavi’s continuation next season, with the possibility of him continuing for a longer period if he achieves one or more titles then.
It is noteworthy that Barcelona this season went out without titles, as it exited the King’s Cup and the Champions League in the quarter-finals, lost the Super Cup final to Real Madrid 4-1, and practically lost the La Liga title after the gap with the Merengue widened to 11 points 6 rounds before the end.
