Al-Ahly continued its dominance in the African Champions League, after achieving the title for the twelfth time in its history by defeating Esperance 1-0 in the second leg of the 2024 edition final.
The first leg between the two teams in Tunisia ended in a scoreless draw, with Al-Ahly winning the title thanks to an own goal scored by Roger Oholo in the third minute.
Thus, Al-Ahly maintained the African Champions League shield for the second year in a row, setting up a date with its compatriot Zamalek in the African Super Cup.
Zamalek had won the Confederation Cup title for the second time in its history, after winning last week over RS Berkane 1-0 at Cairo International Stadium.
Historically, Zamalek and Al-Ahly met once in the African Super Cup, and the talk here is about the 1994 edition, which was held in South Africa, and the White Knight won with the famous Ayman Mansour missile.
