Officially…the first team to leave Euro 2024

France tied 0-0 with the Netherlands in the second round of Euro 2024 groups, and with it was announced the first team to leave the competition in the first round.

That team will be Poland, after Robert Lewandowski’s teammates lost from Austria 3-1 on Friday before France and the Netherlands drew.

The Roosters, along with the Windmills, are now at the top of the group standings with 4 points each, with Austria with 3 points in third place, and Poland with no score in fourth place.

UEFA regulations stipulate that if two teams are equal in points, the result of the direct confrontations between them will be judged, which means that even if Poland wins over France, it will remain in fourth place if Austria loses to the Netherlands due to the superiority of Ralf Rangnick’s squad in the direct confrontations.

The first and second placed teams from each group qualify, along with the four best third-placed teams from the six groups.

The Poles will enter the final match against France without any real incentive, which is in the interest of Didier Deschamps’ squad, which will try to win in order to top the group and get an easier option in the round of 16.
