Officially… Amouta leaves Jordan and his replacement is announced

The Jordanian Football Association announced in an official statement the departure of Hussein Amouta from coaching the Jordanian national team due to special circumstances.

Since the end of the 2024 Asian Cup, there has been a lot of controversy regarding Amouta’s future, but the Moroccan continued until the end of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and now his departure is announced.

According to the statement, the departure came at the desire of the coach himself and for special circumstances whose content was not revealed, and the Jordanian Federation agreed to his request to leave the training of Al-Nashama along with his technical staff.

In another statement, the Jordanian Federation announced that Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami is the one to succeed his compatriot Amouta in leading the first team.

Sellami previously coached the Moroccan U-20 and U-17 national teams, and also coached Moroccan Raja, and his last experience in the past season was with FUS Rabat, with whom he has been working since 2021.

It is noteworthy that Hussein Amouta led Jordan to reach the final match of the 2024 Asian Cup, which is the greatest achievement in the history of Al-Nashama ever.

Sellami, 53 years old, will take over the task of coaching Jordan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next September, and his contract extends until the end of the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
