When will Modric retire from football? The Croatian responds

Real Madrid star Luka Modric refused to set a date for his retirement from football while expressing his disappointment at Croatia’s exit from the Euro 2024 competition.

Modric scored a goal for his country against Italy that was enough for Croatia to reach the round of 16, but a last-second goal by Luciano Spalletti’s squad caused an early exit for the Real Madrid star’s teammates from the Euro held in Germany.

After the match, Modric was asked about the possibility of retiring from international football or football in general, to which he replied, “It will happen one day.”

He also added, “I don’t know when I will retire from football. I want to keep playing forever, but of course we all know that this is impossible.”

He concluded, “I don’t know what to say. Sometimes football is cruel. Thank you to the fans for supporting us, and we are sorry that we did not succeed in passing to the next round.”

It is noteworthy that Modric is about to announce the renewal of his contract with Real Madrid for another year, thus continuing his career there over 11 years, during which he won 26 titles, more than any other player in the history of the Royal Club.

With his goal in Italy on Monday, the 39-year-old became the oldest player to score in Euro history, and Croatia’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
