Mundo Deportivo reported that Thiago Alcantara is close to returning to Barcelona to work as assistant coach to Hansi Flick.
The 33-year-old announced his retirement from football last week, and immediately contacts began between Barca officials and him to convince him to help Flick lead the Blaugrana.
Alcantara is fluent in German after playing with Bayern Munich for more than 7 years, and enjoys a very special relationship with Flick, who coached him between 2019 and 2020.
According to the latest report, Thiago appeared at Barcelona on Wednesday to negotiate the matter, and the indications are all positive that he will accept the offered job.
But what is currently being discussed is the duration of the contract, as Barcelona and Thiago do not want a long cooperation, and most likely the former Blaugrana player will work for only 6 months with Flick to help him adapt to Camp Nou.
It is noteworthy that Thiago’s name was put forward to work with Flick from the first moment of his appointment, before the German coach brought in Heiko Westermann to help him since he was fluent in Spanish.
