Barcelona confirm Pedri’s knee injury and provide return date update

Barcelona have confirmed in an official statement that Pedri has suffered a medial collateral ligament strain in his left knee and will be out for an unspecified period of time.

Pedri sustained the injury following a strong tackle from Toni Kroos in Spain’s Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Germany, and was forced off after just seven minutes of the game at the MHP Arena.

According to Barcelona’s statement, Pedri underwent a medical examination in the past few hours at the club’s headquarters, and his return date will depend on the speed of his recovery.

Meanwhile, there is some positive news for Barcelona fans, with ‘Mundo Deportivo’ reporting that all indications are that Pedri will start the new season and his return to Flick’s squad will not be delayed.

According to the newspaper, which is close to Barcelona, Pedri’s absence will be a maximum of five weeks, and there is great optimism that he will be fit for the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Monaco on August 12, and in the worst case scenario he will be available for the opening La Liga fixture.

Barcelona will begin their La Liga campaign on August 17 with a trip to face Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.
