Spanish club FC Barcelona has officially announced the return of Thiago Alcantara to its ranks, but not as a player. Instead, the 33-year-old will join the coaching staff of new manager Hansi Flick as an assistant
The 33-year-old announced his retirement two weeks ago after a busy career during which he won more than 30 championships with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
Barcelona immediately began communicating with Thiago so that he could join Flick’s staff and serve as a link between the German coach and the Blaugrana players.
Thiago has the special advantage of being a good German speaker, which will make him able to translate what Flick says to the Spanish Barcelona players.
According to the club’s statement, Thiago is scheduled to remain in his position for a temporary period, which is the summer period and preparation for the new season only.
Thus, Thiago will travel with Barcelona to the United States for the friendly tour, after which his mission will end, which Barcelona titled “the period of obtaining the necessary training experience.”
It is noteworthy that Thiago’s relationship with Flick is very special, as the coach was one of the reasons for his great glow when he took over as coach of Bayern Munich in 2019 and led the Bavarian club to the historic six-man win.
