Barcelona has announced that its young star Lamine Yamal will wear the number 19 shirt with the Catalan club starting next season.
Since Xavi Hernandez promoted Yamal to the first team last season, the Moroccan-born player has worn the number 27 shirt.
Given his stellar performance last season and his contributions to the Spanish national team at the Euros, the player decided to change his number. The expectation was that he would wear the number 10 shirt, but he chose number 19 instead.
According to the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Yamal’s choice of the number 19 confirms that Barcelona will do everything it can to get rid of Vitor Roque this summer.
Roque joined Barcelona last winter, but failed to make the expected contribution. With the acquisition of his shirt number, this is a sign that the Brazilian will be leaving the Camp Nou for good.
In the meantime, it seems that Yamal has decided to follow in the footsteps of the legend Lionel Messi, whose second number with Barcelona was also number 19.
