Former Real Madrid player Takefusa Kubo has revealed that he turned down a €160 million offer to move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
The Japanese international has been one of La Liga’s standout players with Real Sociedad and has been linked with top clubs including Liverpool.
Speaking to France Football, Kubo said, “I turned down a big offer from Saudi Arabia because the most important thing for me is to play with and against the best.”
He added, “If the Saudi league becomes the best league in the world, whether it’s soon or far in the future, then I can move there.”
“Right now, the Saudi league is only attractive from an economic standpoint,” he concluded.
According to Kubo, the Saudi offer was for an annual salary of €40 million over a four-year contract, totaling €160 million.
The 23-year-old can move wherever he wants if the interested club pays €60 million, which is the value of the release clause in his contract with Real Sociedad.
