Barcelona Confirms Failure of Nico Williams Deal

For the first time since previously announcing his club’s desire to sign Nico Williams, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made negative comments about the possibility of signing the Athletic Bilbao star.

Williams had hinted at his continued stay with Bilbao after appearing in a video where he announced that he would be wearing the number 10 shirt next season for the San Mamés team.

Before Barcelona’s match against Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy, a Barcelona fan appeared urging Laporta to sign Williams, but the Catalan president’s response was surprising.

Laporta simply said, “We already have a great team,” which means there is no need to sign Williams, and this is seen as confirmation that the deal has collapsed.

Barcelona is now looking for another left winger, according to Catalan newspapers, with the choice between Luis Diaz and Kingsley Coman, with the latter being preferred due to his relationship with coach Hansi Flick.
