Fox Sports revealed that Lionel Messi rejected an astronomical salary to join Al Hilal Saudi Club in the summer of 2023.
At the end of Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Al Hilal entered the negotiations strongly, hoping to sign him in light of the wave of stars joining the Saudi League.
According to the report, the Saudi offer to Messi amounted to a weekly salary ranging between 15 and 20 million euros.
With the addition of incentives and easy-to-achieve bonuses, the Argentine star would have received nearly a billion euros annually, and would have become the highest paid in the history of the sport.
Despite all these financial temptations, the 36-year-old chose to join the United States to fulfill his family’s desire and dream of living in “Uncle Sam’s country”.
It is worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo receives 200 million euros annually with Al-Nassr, which is the highest paid, followed by Neymar with about 150 million euros.
