Zamalek returned from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, with a valuable victory over its host, Police, with a clean goal, in the first leg of the 32nd round of the African Confederation Cup.
The winning goal for the White Knight came through Abdullah El-Saeed after a pass from Ahmed Sayed Zizo and a powerful shot from the 39-year-old that found its way into the home team’s net.
Zamalek’s performance was perhaps not reassuring, especially in the second half, as Police wasted many dangerous opportunities, which was clear on Jose Gomez’s squad.
In general, this victory brings Zamalek closer to reaching the group stage, as a draw with any result in Cairo next Saturday is enough to officially secure qualification for the round of 16.
The second leg against Police will be Zamalek’s last chance to test its capabilities before playing the African Super Cup match against Al-Ahly on Friday, September 27, which is scheduled to be held in Riyadh.
It remains to be noted that Zamalek did not play the match against Al-Shorta with new deals, and coach Gomez relied on the same elements that played last season and finished the season in third place in the Egyptian League.
