Ter Stegen leaves the Villarreal match crying.. and expectations of a very serious injury! (Video)

Marc-Andre ter Stegen left the Barcelona and Villarreal match after suffering a very serious knee injury.

The German goalkeeper went out trying to catch a cross, but then fell to the ground of La Ceramica in pain from his knee.

Ter Stegen could not even stand on his feet from the severity of the pain, and the cameras captured him crying while Barcelona’s medical staff tried to treat him.

Ter Stegen was carried out on a stretcher in the last minute of the first half, and was replaced by substitute goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

Given the force of the fall to the ground and the twisting of the knee, there are doubts that his injury may be a cruciate ligament tear or internal ligaments.

If this diagnosis is correct, it will mean that the German goalkeeper’s season is over, and he may need a very long time, up to a year, to return to the stadiums again.

Stegen joins a list of Barcelona injuries that includes Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal and Fermín López.

Stegen’s injury comes days after he was subjected to a scathing attack from Catalan fans following his mistakes in the Monaco match, which forced him to close the comments on his Instagram account.
