Only obstacle preventing Szczesny from joining Barcelona

Sport newspaper reported that Barcelona coach Hansi Flick wants the Catalan club to sign Szczesny specifically to succeed Ter Stegen in the Blaugrana goal this season.

Szczesny had announced his retirement from football after the end of last season, but according to recent reports, he does not mind changing his mind and returning to play with Barcelona.

Barcelona’s management presented several options for goalkeepers who could be signed immediately to Flick, who narrowed the list to Szczesny and Keylor Navas, with his preference for the Polish goalkeeper.

According to the report, Szczesny has only one condition, which is to join as a starting goalkeeper and not sit on the bench, a condition that is guaranteed to be met for Flick.

But the only crisis currently lies in the fact that the financial settlement that Szczesny signed with Juventus when he announced his retirement prevents him from signing with a major club unless the Old Lady club approves.

This could mean that Barcelona would have to pay Juventus a sum of money to sign Szczesny, which is impossible at the moment due to the economic situation at Camp Nou.

In general, Barcelona have less than a month to decide whether to sign a new goalkeeper, whether Szczesny or someone else, otherwise they will finish the season with Iñaki Peña and work on signing a new goalkeeper in the summer due to the Financial Fair Play rules that will almost certainly prevent a new goalkeeper from being registered in January.
