Raphael Varane has announced his final retirement from football due to the injury he recently suffered with Como.
The French international had left Manchester United at the end of his contract last summer, and then moved to Como for free, then got injured after playing only 23 minutes with the Italian club.
With the many injuries he suffered in recent years, Varane preferred to end his football career at the age of only 31.
Varane wrote a statement on his official accounts in which he said, “I have no regrets, and I would not change anything, I have won more than I dreamed of, but apart from the medals and awards, I am proud that no matter what happens, I have stuck to my principles of being honest.”
He also added, “To the fans of every club I played for, my teammates, coaches and staff, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”
After his departure as a player, Varane will continue to work at Como but in administrative roles.
Varane represented Real Madrid in 360 matches in all competitions over 10 years, during which he achieved many achievements, such as winning the Champions League 4 times, and the Spanish League 3 times.
On the international level, Varane was part of the French national team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
