It’s over.. Barcelona signs this goalkeeper to succeed Stegen

Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Barcelona has reached an agreement with Szczesny to return to football and move to the Catalan club.

The Polish international had announced his retirement last August after the end of his contract with Juventus, despite the big offers he received from Saudi league clubs.

After Ter Stegen’s injury, which will keep him off the field for 8 months, the Barça management began searching for a new goalkeeper to accompany Iñaki Pena, especially since his registration will be easy.

Coach Hansi Flick’s first choice was Szczesny despite his announcement of retirement, and the player admitted in the past hours that there were negotiations with Barça.

According to Romano, Barcelona has agreed with Szczesny on all the financial details, and will sign a one-year contract, provided that he undergoes a medical examination on Friday or Saturday.

Logically, Szczesny, 34, will be the starting goalkeeper, despite reports that Barca management assured Peña that he would have the opportunity to participate continuously after Ter Stegen’s injury.

Szczesny has a long journey in the stadiums, as he moved to Arsenal at the age of 15 from Legia Warsaw, and was loaned to Brentford and Roma, and was the first-choice goalkeeper for the Gunners for a period, then moved to Juventus in 2017 for 18 million euros and stayed there for 7 years until retiring.
