Toni Kroos confirmed that he was very close to moving to Manchester United in 2014, had it not been for the decision to sack coach David Moyes.
Kroos left Bayern Munich in 2014 to join Real Madrid in a swap deal that saw Xabi Alonso move to the Bavarians in addition to 20 million euros.
Before that, Kroos was often linked with a move to United, and he said in this regard, “Yes, I reached an agreement with United in 2014, but after Moyes was sacked and Louis van Gaal was appointed, I rejected the offer.”
He also added, “Moyes came to me privately and the contract was settled, but after he was sacked and Van Gaal took over, things became complicated.”
He concluded, “United did not contact me after that, then I received a call from Carlo Ancelotti during the World Cup and I decided to move to Real Madrid.”
It is noteworthy that the relationship between Kroos and Van Gaal was not good when the Dutchman was the coach of Bayern Munich because of his preference to rely on a player in a position different from his preferred position.
