Egypt coach Hossam Hassan finds himself under fire after announcing the Pharaohs’ squad for the two matches against Mauritania in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The main criticism of Hossam Hassan came after his continued exclusion of Omar Jab, especially in light of the distinguished performance of Zamalek’s right-back, in addition to the injury of the national team’s main full-back Mohamed Hani.
Hossam Hassan’s decision to exclude Ipswich Town captain and star midfielder Sam Morsy remains one of the incomprehensible decisions, as Egypt clearly suffers in this position and what the player offers qualifies him to return to participate with the Nile Country again.
Criticism also continued on the coach due to his exclusion of Hossam Abdel-Majid despite the great performance he showed in the Paris 2024 Olympics and then with Zamalek in the African Super Cup against Al-Ahly.
Another strange decision was to exclude Mohamed Elneny and Ahmed Hegazy, although Egyptian media suggested that the reason for this was their disagreement with Hossam Hassan for not including them in the last international break.
It is noteworthy that Hossam Hassan also excluded Al-Ahly star Imam Ashour, and according to media figure Ahmed Shobeir, the decision came for technical reasons on the one hand, and on the other hand for the way the player left the last camp despite his injury not being severe.
The list of the Egyptian national team came as follows:
