Officially.. Barcelona signs Szczesny

Barcelona announced in an official statement that Szczesny has signed a contract to transfer to the Catalan club for a year.

The Polish goalkeeper had announced his retirement last August after the end of his contract with Juventus, despite many offers from the Saudi League.

Barcelona began searching for a new goalkeeper after the serious injury that afflicted Ter Stegen, which caused him to undergo surgery that will keep him out of the stadiums for at least 8 months.

The Catalan club’s management, based on the desire of coach Hansi Flick, contacted Szczesny to discuss joining Barca, and indeed the Pole agreed to return from retirement to wear the blue shirt.

Barcelona took advantage of La Liga’s rules that give it the right to register a new player in place of Stegen in exchange for receiving a maximum of 80% of his salary after the German goalkeeper’s long absence was confirmed.

It remains unknown whether the 34-year-old Szczesny will be a starter for Barcelona, or whether they will continue to rely on Iñaki Peña, given that Flick has confirmed that no player is guaranteed to be a starter with him.

It remains to be noted that Szczesny will also be registered in the Blaugrana’s Champions League squad without any problems.

It is worth noting that Szczesny has a long career on the pitch, having represented giant clubs such as Arsenal, Roma and Juventus, and has also played numerous international matches with the Polish national team in various tournaments.
