Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has expressed his concern for the health of football players due to the enormous pressure of matches this season.
The Polish international is not the first to criticize FIFA and UEFA’s decisions to increase the number of matches, as he was preceded by several players, most notably Dani Carvajal, who announced that the players may go on strike in protest against the officials’ policies.
Lewandowski said after scoring a hat-trick in Barcelona’s victory over Alaves on Sunday, “I have never played this many consecutive matches in my entire career.”
He added, “We only train for two days between matches, this has never happened to me before.”
He concluded, “Fortunately, the international break is coming, we can rest to some extent and the injured players will also have the opportunity to do so.”
It is worth noting that despite only a month and a half since the start of the new season, Lewandowski, 37, has participated in 11 matches with Barcelona in all competitions, which reveals the extent of the enormous pressure on the players physically.
