Bild newspaper revealed that a young German coach refused to coach Manchester United last summer.
United management wanted to sign a new coach to succeed Erik ten Hag after last season’s modest season, but received many rejections and was forced to renew the Dutch coach’s contract for two more years.
According to the German newspaper, one of those who refused to coach the Red Devils was Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness.
United officials contacted Hoeness to explore the possibility of him coaching the team, and the coach was flattered, but he immediately informed them that he could not leave Stuttgart at the moment.
Hoeness believes that his work with the “crocodiles” is not done yet and preferred to continue with Stuttgart for another year, before which he had already renewed his contract until the summer of 2027.
Hoeness succeeded in leading Stuttgart the season before last to escape relegation through the play-offs, then he made a big surprise last season by finishing second in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 14 years.
Hoeness is known for presenting entertaining football, to the point that Pep Guardiola himself expressed his love for the style of the coach who previously worked in the Bayern Munich reserve team and Hoffenheim.
