Real Madrid settles on “Modric’s successor”

The newspaper “AS” revealed that Real Madrid’s management has already settled on signing the player who will be Luka Modric’s successor at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric’s contract with Real Madrid ends at the end of the current season, and it is most likely his last season with Los Blancos, given that he has reached the age of forty.

Florentino Perez wants to sign a player with the same characteristics as Modric in midfield, and has identified Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz as the new star of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Real faces two main problems in signing Wirtz, the first of which is related to the financial consideration, as Leverkusen previously announced through its president Fernando Caro that it will not sell the player for less than 150 million euros.

The other problem is the expected fierce competition from the major European clubs, specifically Manchester City, which views the German international as a successor to Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium.

But what reassures Real Madrid is that those close to Wirtz have said that the player is very interested in moving to the Spanish club in particular.

At the same time, Real Madrid’s expected signing of Xabi Alonso next summer to succeed Ancelotti could boost the chances of getting Wirtz in light of the close relationship that binds him to the Spanish coach.

It remains to be noted that Wirtz has a contract with Leverkusen until the summer of 2027, and former Leverkusen manager Rudi Voller said that he expects the 22-year-old to continue at the BayArena until the 2026 World Cup.
