La Liga president Javier Tebas has called on FIFA to cancel the 2025 Club World Cup.
Tebas is among many European officials who have denounced the huge pressure of matches in the coming period, and believe that the 2025 Club World Cup is “not important”.
Tebas sends a message to Infantino
During the second European Club Association Forum in Brussels, Tebas sent a message to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, saying, “It is not a necessary tournament for the players, nor for the clubs, nor for FIFA, and all it does is cause chaos.”
He added, “Infantino, you know that you did not sell the TV rights for the estimated amount you announced, and you also know that you did not get the required sponsorship as planned, and you know that the leagues and the Professional Players’ Association do not want this tournament, so cancel it now.”
Tebas considered that using FIFA money to hold this tournament is a serious mistake, and that there are countries and institutions that need more money to develop football.
Reasons for rejecting the 2025 Club World Cup
Players are already suffering from severe fatigue in light of the exaggerated commitments they have with their teams and national teams, and with the 2025 Club World Cup, they will almost not get the necessary rest.
The number of matches has recently doubled for two reasons, the first is the increase in the number of Champions League matches, and the other is the exaggerated international breaks due to the European Nations League, World Cup qualifiers and continental cups.
Date of the 2025 Club World Cup and tournament system
FIFA had announced that the 2025 Club World Cup will be held in the United States of America from June to July.
The cup will be in the style of the World Cup for national teams, i.e. with the participation of 32 teams that will be divided into 8 groups, each group containing 4 teams.
The top two teams will qualify for the round of 16, from where the knockout stages will begin until the final match.
Teams participating in the 2025 Club World Cup
5 Arab clubs will participate in the Club World Cup, namely Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance of Tunisia, and Wydad of Morocco, in addition to Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia and Al Ain of the Emirates from the Asian continent.
The European continent is represented by 12 teams, namely: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Porto, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Red Bull Salzburg.
Added to them are Mamelodi Sundowns, Ulsan, Urawa, Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Club Lyon, and Auckland City from Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
From South America, Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense will participate, along with the Copa Libertadores champion this year, in addition to a host team from America that has not been announced, but it is most likely to be Inter Miami.
