Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his admiration for Mohamed Salah’s defensive role since the start of the season.
The Egyptian scored a goal and made another against Chelsea on Sunday, and after the match Slot praised not only his goalscoring contributions, but also how he supported the defense.
The Dutch coach said, “I told Arnold that he has competition now, because I think Salah can play at right-back very well!”.
He added, “The defensive duty he showed against Chelsea and how he helped the team pleased me as much as his goal and the assist.”
The 32-year-old plays primarily on the right wing and can be relied upon a little in depth, but he has never played at right-back, and it would be illogical for him to participate in it considering that he is left-footed.
But Slot intended to praise Salah’s performance and emphasize that what he does, whether offensively or defensively, exceeds expectations.
Thanks to his goal against Chelsea, Salah is now in ninth place among the Premier League’s all-time top scorers, one goal behind eighth-placed Robbie Fowler.
