The German network “Sky” reported that the Bayer Leverkusen administration is aware that Xabi Alonso will leave the German club’s training at the end of the current season and will not continue beyond that at the Bay Arena even though his contract runs until the summer of 2026.
The Spanish coach had succeeded in leading Leverkusen to achieve the local double last season, and refused to move to train Bayern Munich or leave for any other club that was interested in him such as Liverpool, preferring to continue for another year with the pharmaceutical factory club.
Leverkusen is ranked fourth in the German league standings with 14 points, only 3 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and has achieved two victories so far in the Champions League and reached the second round of the German Cup this season.
Real Madrid is the closest to signing Alonso
According to “Sky”, the Leverkusen administration has already begun searching for an alternative coach for Alonso because it believes that he will receive many big offers next summer and will leave.
The German club’s management is aware that interest from Real Madrid or Manchester City is enough to attract Alonso’s interest and make him request to leave at the end of the current season.
At the same time, if Pep Guardiola leaves Manchester City, Alonso is the first choice to manage the English club, and the idea of working there is already attractive to the Real Madrid legend.

Leverkusen identifies Alonso’s successor
Bayer Leverkusen’s management has drawn up a list of potential coaches to succeed Alonso, led by current Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness, who renewed his contract with the southern club last season until the summer of 2027.
The other name is the former Bayern Munich player and Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant in training the German national team, Sandro Wagner, who everyone is optimistic will be one of the most important coaches in German football in the future.
What did Xabi Alonso achieve with Bayer Leverkusen?
It remains to be noted that Alonso achieved many achievements with Bayer Leverkusen, the most prominent of which was winning the Bundesliga title without defeat last season, then winning the cup at the expense of Kaiserslautern.
Alonso achieved a historic series of undefeated matches that extended to 42 matches, before it ended at the hands of Atalanta, who squandered the coach’s opportunity to achieve the treble by defeating him in the Europa League final 3-0.
