Egyptian press reports indicated that Al-Ahly coach Marcel Koller decided not to rely on Mostafa Shobier to guard the goal against Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup final.
Shobier had participated as a starter in the match against Ceramica Cleopatra in the semi-finals, where he performed well and was one of the reasons for the Red Devils’ success in winning 2-1 and reaching the final match.
Despite this, Koller decided to return captain Mohamed El-Shennawy to guard Al-Ahly’s goal in the derby against Zamalek, scheduled for Thursday at Al-Rashid Stadium.
According to reports, the Swiss coach still views El-Shennawy as Al-Ahly’s first goalkeeper, and intends to rely on him in all major matches during the new season.
Given El-Shennawy’s experience, Koller sees him as the best and safest choice to protect Al-Ahly’s goal in a major match like the Zamalek match.
It is noteworthy that El-Shenawy was Al-Ahly’s goalkeeper in the African Super Cup match against Zamalek last month, and he was subjected to severe criticism after he failed to stop Nasser Mansi’s goal and did not stop any penalty kick as well.
