The British newspaper “Daily Mail” reported that the Manchester United management contacted its counterpart in Manchester City to request something that seems very strange.
The Golden Ball Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held next Monday in the capital, Paris, amidst the nominations of a number of City and United players for various awards.
According to the report, the United management asked City to allow the duo, Kobe Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, who are nominated for the Best Young Player in the World award, to go with the City players on the same plane heading to Paris to attend the ceremony.
But surprisingly, City rejected the request of the United management, explaining that the plane was full to the brim with a delegation from the blue club who will attend the Golden Ball ceremony.
The request in itself seems strange considering that United is one of the richest football clubs, and City’s response also carries great embarrassment for the Red Devils.
It is worth noting that Erling Haaland, Rodri, Ruben Dias and Phil Foden are all nominated for the Golden Ball, in addition to Pep Guardiola being nominated for the Best Coach in the World award.
