Manchester City star Rodri has revealed that Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal was the first to congratulate him on winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
Carvajal’s initiative comes despite the anger within his club over neither he nor Vinicius Junior winning the award, while Rodri won the controversial award.
Rodri said in statements reported by Marca newspaper, “I spoke to Carvajal, he also deserves the award, he was the first to call me and congratulate me on winning the Ballon d’Or.”
He also added, “He is a player who is very close to me, we even got closer in the injury we suffered this season!”.
He concluded, “He is a player who shares the same values as me in terms of fighting, playing for the team and loving football, he congratulated me from his heart and I thank him for that.”
It is worth noting that Rodri thanked Carvajal on stage while receiving the Ballon d’Or award and confirmed that the Real Madrid star also deserved to win it.
The duo share a dressing room with the Spanish national team a lot, and enjoy a good relationship that is not expected to be spoiled by the recent Ballon d’Or events.
