In less than a week, Manchester United’s management was forced to pay more than 30 million euros to sack coach Erik Ten Hag.
The English club had sacked the coach last week after losing to West Ham 2-1, then announced the temporary appointment of Ruud Van Nistelrooy as the new coach until a permanent coach was contracted.
In the past few hours, the Red Devils’ management reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim to lead the team immediately.

Manchester United renewed Ten Hag’s contract last summer for two years, which meant that the club had to pay the full value of the contract when he was sacked.
According to the English media, United had to compensate the Dutch coach and his staff with an amount ranging between 14 and 17 million euros.
How much did Manchester United pay to sign Amorim?
According to Sky, Manchester United paid 15 million euros to Sporting Lisbon in order for the Portuguese club to agree to terminate the coach’s contract.
Amorim had a release clause of 10 million euros, to which another 5 million were added in order for the coach to bring his assistants in Lisbon to Old Trafford.
Thus, in the last week, Manchester United’s management was forced to pay more than 30 million euros to dismiss Ten Hag and appoint Amorim as his successor with a contract until the summer of 2027.

What has Amorim offered in his coaching career so far?
United are counting on Amorim to pull the team out of the dark tunnel it is living in, especially since the 39-year-old’s career in Portugal looks very promising.
Amorim took over Sporting in 2020, and over the course of 4 years he won the Portuguese League title twice, the Portuguese League Cup 3 times, and the Portuguese Cup once.
This season, Amorim leads the Portuguese league with Sporting, 6 points ahead of Porto, and his contract with the capital giants extends until the summer of 2026.
