Barcelona’s management is still planning to sign a new striker next summer to succeed Robert Lewandowski in the future, and it seems that they have already settled on his identity.
Lewandowski is 37 years old, and his contract will be automatically renewed for another year, but there are doubts that he will continue at the same performance and pace as he gets older, which prompted the Barca management to search for an alternative striker.
According to the Portuguese newspaper “A Bola”, Barcelona wants to sign Sporting Lisbon striker and one of the most prominent strikers in Europe this season, Victor Gyökeres.
Gyökeres has scored 20 goals this season and made 4 others in 16 matches in all competitions so far with Sporting.
The 25-year-old’s contract with the Portuguese club extends until the summer of 2028, but A Bola indicates that Sporting has promised the player to allow him to leave for 70 million euros next summer.
Barcelona’s economic crisis remains an obstacle to paying such an amount, so Joan Laporta’s administration is considering an alternative idea, which is to include one of the Blaugrana players in the deal and reduce the amount.
Initially, Barça is considering including Trincao, who is already on loan to Lisbon, in the deal, so that he can be sold completely to the Portuguese in exchange for reducing the required value for Gyökeres.
There is also another name, Vitor Roque, who is on loan to Real Betis, and who was on Sporting’s list last summer had it not been for not reaching an agreement with Barça on the deal at that time.
Barça’s administration believes that Gyökeres would be an ideal option to replace Lewandowski, given his age (25 Years Old) and abilities, and he can learn a lot from the Pole next season, which is certain to continue with the Blaugrana.
