Sport newspaper reported that Barcelona management is about to officially referee against the Spanish refereeing authority in order to explore the reason for canceling Robert Lewandowski’s goal against Real Sociedad.
The Catalan club tasted the bitterness of a 1-0 defeat at Anoeta Stadium in a match that would have been turned upside down if the automatic offside technology had counted a goal that appeared legitimate in the 14th minute scored by Lewandowski.
The refereeing authority confirmed that it reviewed the game with 10 different cameras and saw that the Pole was offside, which is contrary to what all angles show that the automatic offside technology made a mistake in determining Lewandowski’s foot from the Sociedad defender’s foot.
Initially, Barcelona management will send an official request to La Liga to obtain clarification on the reason for canceling the goal.
Barcelona wants to know the criteria that were followed and because of which the goal was canceled, and Barca does not want to attack the refereeing or the like at this stage until the truth is discovered.
If Joan Laporta’s administration proves that the refereeing body knew the goal was valid and said otherwise, then more stringent measures may be taken, such as an appeal or protest, and may even demand a replay.
It is worth noting that the loss to Sociedad made it possible for the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid to shrink to just 3 points if the royal club wins its postponed match against Valencia.
