The curse of injuries forced one of Real Madrid’s young players to retire from football early.
Real Madrid issued an official statement announcing that player Marc Cucalon decided to retire after serious complications from a torn cruciate ligament.
Cucalon joined Real Madrid in 2016 from the Zaragoza Academy, and was seen as one of the most prominent talents expected to shine at the royal club.
Unfortunately, the player suffered a cruciate ligament tear on September 6, 2022 while participating with Real Madrid’s youth team in a league match.
During his cruciate ligament surgery, he was exposed to bacterial contamination, which affected the cartilage of the joint and caused an infection that rarely occurs in such cases.
Ultimately, after strenuous attempts to recover, the player decided to retire from football at the age of 19.
In his retirement message, Cucalon thanked Real Madrid’s management, saying, “Thank you Real Madrid, because you never let go of my hand, and thank you to all the people who supported me from the beginning.”
