Barcelona star Dani Olmo believes that Rodri deserved to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or over Vinicius Junior, given the Manchester City star’s performance throughout the year.
Olmo’s statements in this regard seem logical, given his friendship with Rodri and their time together in the Spanish national team over the past years.
In the press conference before Spain’s match against Denmark in the European Nations League, Olmo was asked about the Ballon d’Or, to which he replied, “It was fair that Rodri won it.”
He also added, “Look at what he has done throughout the year, he won the Euros and won the award for the best player in the tournament.”
He continued, “There were other candidates who could have won the Ballon d’Or, not Carvajal, but seeing Rodri celebrating with his family was a wonderful and happy moment for me.”
He concluded, “This Ballon d’Or is for all of Spanish football, not just Rodri, after years in which the two football monsters (Messi and Ronaldo) have swept everything.”
It is noteworthy that many Spanish football legends supported Rodri’s winning of the award, most notably Andres Iniesta, who also considered it fully deserved regardless of what Vinicius Junior had presented.
