Barcelona settles on selling star to register Olmo in January

Sport reported that Barcelona’s management does not find any other way to register Dani Olmo in January other than letting go of one of the team’s stars during the upcoming winter Mercato.

Olmo joined the Catalan club last summer from Leipzig for 60 million euros, and was registered instead of the injured Andreas Christensen by exploiting La Liga regulations.

Now that the Danish international has recovered from his injury, Barça must return him to the roster starting next January, and remove Olmo and work on registering him in a different way in line with the Financial Fair Play rules.

Barcelona cannot currently return to the 1:1 rule and the Blaugrana’s calculations are still complicated, so the only solution is to save money and a place on the roster by selling one of the players.

According to the latest report, Barcelona’s management has settled on selling Christensen in January to register Olmo again, especially since the Danish player is almost out of coach Hansi Flick’s calculations.

Barcelona already have a back four in Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia, Pau Coparsi and the soon-to-be-injured Ronald Araujo, so there would be no practical need for Christensen.

The former Chelsea player is attracting interest from Premier League clubs and Barca would be happy to sell him for around €40-50m.

The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and is under contract at the Camp Nou until the summer of 2026.
