American media confirmed that Inter Miami coach Tata Martino has resigned from coaching Lionel Messi’s squad.
The 62-year-old coach made this decision for personal reasons, although Inter Miami’s management would have preferred him to continue.
Martino took over the American club in July 2023, and succeeded in achieving the League Cup and the Supporters’ Shield, but failed to lead the club to win the American League for the first time.
It is known that Martino has a very good relationship with Messi after previously coaching him in the Argentine national team and Barcelona, which was one of the reasons Inter Miami contracted with him.
In the same context, journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Tata Martino’s successor will also be one of Lionel Messi’s close friends.
We are talking here about Javier Mascherano, who has been coaching the Argentine Olympic team since July 2022.
The Inter Miami management has already reached an agreement with Mascherano, according to which he will resign from coaching Argentina and join the stars of Barça at the American club.
It is worth noting that Mascherano played for many years alongside Messi at Barcelona, and was one of his biggest supporters in the Argentine national team as well, so the step of contracting with him, despite his modest coaching career, seems very logical.
Mascherano led Argentina in the Paris 2024 Olympics, but he bid farewell to the competition in the quarter-finals after losing to the hosts, France, by a clean goal.
