Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, responded to the criticism his team is facing due to the high average age and the danger it poses to the future of the English club.
Guardiola has always been known for his preference for young players, but in his recent years with City, he relied heavily on experienced players, perhaps the most prominent of whom is Kevin De Bruyne, 34 years old.
The Spanish coach commented on his critics, relying on Real Madrid, which has achieved many achievements by relying on players who have passed the 30-year barrier and have a high average age.
Guardiola said in this regard, “Do you know how many good players are over 30 in this world?”.
He continued, “I saw Real Madrid with Casemiro, Kroos and Modric, who are over 30 years old, and they won the Champions League while playing one match every three matches.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola likened his team’s star Rodri to the legend Lionel Messi, considering that he will leave a big void until he returns from his injury.
The philosopher said, “We miss Rodri, we miss the best player in the world. During my time with Barcelona, Messi was the best in the world. Imagine playing a whole season without him.”
He concluded, “But are we in trouble? I assure you, no, we will find a solution and we will replace Rodri in a good way.”
