Marca newspaper confirmed that Real Madrid was not interested in signing Rodri last summer, and has no interest in signing him next summer.
Spanish media previously said that the Merengue management views the Manchester City star as a successor to Toni Kroos, and therefore was planning to sign him and is still in its plans until now.
These rumors were fueled by Rodri’s recent statements in which he said that being linked to Real Madrid is an honor for him and that a call from the royal club can never be ignored as it is the best club in history.
However, according to the Marca report, Rodri is out of Real Madrid’s calculations for several reasons, the most important of which is that he is 28 years old.
Real’s strategic policy in the Mercato is fixed, which is to avoid signing any player close to the age of thirty, and for this reason Rodri is an unlikely option for Florentino Perez’s management.
The Eden Hazard deal, which cost Real Madrid more than 100 million euros and failed miserably, was a major reason for sticking to the policy of young players and not signing any replacement for Toni Kroos so far, despite the presence of options for experienced players.
In addition, there are many doubts that Rodri can return to his level again after his cruciate ligament injury and his absence from the stadiums for at least six months.
Everything is going well at the moment, especially after Pep Guardiola renewed his contract with Manchester City for two years, until Rodri will renew his contract with the English club.
