Not Rodri.. Real Madrid settles on Toni Kroos’ successor

Marca newspaper revealed that Real Madrid’s management has settled on the midfielder that it will try to sign to replace Toni Kroos next summer.

The royal club did not make any reinforcements to its midfield after Kroos’ retirement last summer, but after Aurelien Tchouameni’s performances and injuries, it became necessary for it to sign a new pivot for the team.

According to the report, Real Madrid’s management wants to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi next summer, in a mission that does not seem to be easy.

Real Madrid officials believe that the Spanish international is the best choice to succeed Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu, considering that he has a tremendous ability to pass and control the ball and can provide an offensive addition, just like the German star.

Zubmendi was of interest to Liverpool in particular last summer, and the English club made a generous offer to sign him, but the surprise was the player’s decision to refuse the transfer and his desire to continue with the Basque club.

Zubimendi’s release clause with Real Sociedad is €60m, but convincing the player to leave is a difficult task given his great loyalty to the Basque club, in addition to the expected fierce competition from big clubs to sign him, most notably Barcelona.

Real Madrid has recently been linked with a deal with the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri, but the deal is unlikely for many reasons, most notably his age and his cruciate ligament injury.
