Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has announced that Lamine Yamal will not participate in the Brest match in the Champions League due to his incomplete recovery from injury.
The Spanish star missed Barcelona’s last two matches against Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo due to injury, which was also the reason for his absence from the Spanish national team during the last international break.
The 17-year-old was expected to make it to the Brest match, but Flick stressed that he did not want to risk him for fear of aggravating the injury and missing him for a long time.
The German coach said in the press conference before the match, “Yamal is feeling much better, he did very well in training today.”
He also added, “He will miss the Brest match because we have to be very careful about his injury.”
He concluded, “We hope to see Yamal again on Saturday (against Las Palmas), maybe he will be on the bench, in any case we do not want to rush his return.”
It remains to be noted that the three matches in which Yamal was absent from Barça this season, the Catalan giants were defeated, which demonstrates the player’s exceptional value to Hansi Flick’s squad.
