Manchester United sacked its sporting director Dan Ashworth after only 5 months in charge at Old Trafford.
United paid 3 million euros last summer to Newcastle to obtain the services of Ashworth, who was seen as leading the revolution to return the Red Devils to the top again.
According to the statement, Ashworth met with United CEO, Omar Berrada, after the team lost to Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday, and they agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties by mutual consent.
The English media confirmed that the reason for Ashworth’s departure in this way is the new owner of United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Although the billionaire Ratcliffe wanted Ashworth with all his might since he acquired the club’s shares, he was greatly disappointed with the work done by the famous manager over the past summer.
United made several signings that cost the club 200 million euros, and renewed the contract of coach Erik ten Hag, and Ashworth’s strategy proved to be a failure in light of the team’s severe struggles this season.
Ratcliffe was not pleased with the way Ashworth managed the club’s resources and summer deals, so he asked Brada to sack the former England manager and look for another option.
It is worth noting that United is ranked 13th in the English Premier League standings with only 19 points after 15 rounds, the worst position for the venerable club since 1986.
