Barcelona received a big morale boost after Ronald Araujo was announced to have fully recovered from his injury and ready to play matches with the Catalan club.
The Uruguayan defender has been absent from Barcelona since last July after suffering a major injury during his country’s match against Brazil in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa America.
Araujo has gradually begun to return to Barça training over the past month, and is now included in Hansi Flick’s squad that will play against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.
According to Barcelona’s statement, Araujo has received medical clearance to return and participate in matches, and therefore he has become an option for coach Flick in the coming period.
The return of the 25-year-old is of great importance to Barcelona, who only have Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia and Pau Coparsi in the center-back position, and there is sharp criticism of the performance of the first duo in particular.
Barcelona are suffering from several absences due to injuries, including the other central defenders Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal and Ansu Fati.
It is worth noting that Barcelona is ranked third in the Champions League group with 12 points, the same as Dortmund, which will host it at Signal Iduna Park in the sixth round.
