Flick makes changes to Barcelona’s lineup for first 2025 match

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has decided on a new change to the Catalan club’s lineup when facing Barbastro in the King’s Cup on January 4.

According to the newspaper “Sport”, the German coach has decided to push Szczesny in goal, for the first time since his move to Barcelona last October.

The 34-year-old has been content to be on the bench throughout the past period, which has witnessed a remarkable brilliance by goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

The decision to push Szczesny will not be due to Pena’s decline in level, but rather within the framework of the usual policy that the substitute goalkeeper is the one who plays the cup, and the league and the Champions League is the main goalkeeper.

Flick still trusts Pena and considers him the first goalkeeper after Ter Stegen’s injury, and now he wants to use Szczesny as well to ensure his readiness for the coming period if something new comes up.

Whether Flick or his technical staff, everyone now sees that Szczesny is physically ready to guard the Barça goal, and the Papastro match will be his first opportunity with the Catalans.

At the same time, Flick does not intend to include the Pole in the Spanish Super Cup, and will continue to rely on Peña in the rest of the tournaments in general until he finds something new.
