Valencia announces its new coach before the Real Madrid match

Valencia appointed Carlos Corberan as the team’s new coach, succeeding the sacked coach Ruben Barja.

Corberan was working as a coach for West Bromwich Albion in the English first division, and Valencia was forced to pay the penalty clause in his contract, which exceeds 2 million euros, to obtain his services.

Corberan signed a contract that keeps him as Valencia’s coach until the summer of 2027, with the inclusion of a clause confirming his continuation even if the team is relegated to the second division.

The name of the 41-year-old may be somewhat known to Arab fans, as he previously worked as an assistant coach at the Saudi Federation, with Raul Caneda and Victor Muniz, in addition to his work as an assistant to Jorge da Silva, Raul Caneda and Fabio Cannavro at Al-Nassr Club.

The Spaniard’s first experience as a coach was with Huddersfield Town in 2020, then he coached Olympiacos and West Bromwich, and now he is moving to supervise one of the most prestigious clubs in La Liga, Valencia.

Corberan’s first mission will be difficult by all standards, as his team hosts Real Madrid at Mestalla Stadium on January 3 in the postponed match of the 12th round of La Liga.

It is worth noting that Valencia occupies the second-to-last place in the Spanish League standings with 12 points, and has only won two matches this season out of 17 matches it has played so far.
