The newspaper “AS” revealed that Real Madrid officials have begun negotiations with a new midfielder to succeed Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The spotlight had been on Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad player, with reports suggesting that Real Madrid’s management has been closely monitoring him for some time and sees him as the ideal replacement for the German star next summer.
However, according to the Spanish newspaper, the Merengue management is also considering another option: Atalanta’s midfield star, Ederson.
The Brazilian player left a very positive impression on Real Madrid officials during the clash between Real and Atalanta in the Champions League last December. Additionally, scouts have written highly positive reports about him since the start of the season.
While Zubimendi currently holds the advantage in the eyes of Real Madrid officials, Ederson also appears to be an ideal option for the Merengue, given his physical abilities and versatility to play in multiple positions.
Ederson’s contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2027, and the Italian club’s management would be open to selling him for a fee between €50 and €60 million next summer.
However, Real Madrid’s task of signing Ederson won’t be easy, as the player is also on the radar of several other top clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United.
It’s worth noting that the 25-year-old has participated in 25 matches across all competitions this season under coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Atalanta acquired him in 2022 from Salernitana for €22 million.
