On Wednesday evening, the draw for the Round of 16 of the 2025 Copa del Rey took place, resulting in somewhat challenging matchups for the two giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Barcelona had advanced to the Round of 32 by defeating Barbastro 3-0, while Real Madrid secured a 4-0 victory over Deportiva Minera.
The draw pitted Barcelona against Real Betis, a match that won’t be easy considering their encounter earlier this season, which ended in a 2-2 draw at the Benito Villamarín Stadium.
However, luckily for Hansi Flick’s squad, the Copa del Rey match will be held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
As for Real Madrid, they were drawn against Celta Vigo, a team that hasn’t beaten the Royal Club since their victory in the first leg of the 2017 Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
The match between Real Madrid and Celta Vigo will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, while Atlético Madrid will face Elche, who currently play in the second division.
Regarding the defending champions, Athletic Bilbao, who barely advanced to the Round of 16 via a penalty shootout, they will face a tough challenge against Osasuna at the San Mamés Stadium.
The Round of 16 matches are scheduled to take place between January 14 and 16.
