Official: West Ham sacks Lopetegui, appoints a big-name manager as his replacement

West Ham has officially announced the dismissal of manager Julen Lopetegui due to poor results.

The Spanish coach took charge of West Ham last summer, replacing David Moyes, but failed to make any significant impact.

Lopetegui managed 22 matches with the London club, winning only 6, while suffering 10 defeats, including a 5-0 loss to Liverpool and a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

According to English media reports, West Ham is set to appoint a high-profile manager as Lopetegui’s replacement.

The name in question is former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter, who has turned down several offers since his dismissal from the Blues in April 2023.

West Ham officials have already reached an agreement with Potter to take over the Hammers, with only the formal signing of contracts remaining, which is expected to happen within the next few hours.

Potter is regarded as one of the best English managers, with Brighton owing much of their recent success and rise to prominence in the Premier League to his revolutionary work at the club.

However, Potter’s stint at Chelsea was far from successful, despite the Blues paying Brighton £21 million to secure his services at the time.

Potter’s name has been linked with several top clubs, most notably Manchester United, and he was also a candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England’s national team manager before Thomas Tuchel was appointed.
